How to Create Battery Charging Threshold For Rooted Phones
In order for this to work you’re going to need a rooted Android device, Unknown Sources enabled and Android 4.4 or higher. If you meet all the requirements, the next thing you need to do is run a small test to see if the app will work on your phone. This test in necessary since the app will not work on every single Android device out there. Even if you meet the three requirements.
First things first, plug in your phone to a charger and open the root file browser. Go to the /sys/class/power_supply/battery folder. Now open the charging_enabled file with a text editor, erase the number one and type in a zero. Don’t forget to save the file when you’re done.
Your Android device should not be charging anymore. You can check this by going to the battery menu. If you see that your device is still charging, then that means your device is not compatible.When you’re done with this test, reboot your phone. Rebooting your phone is going to reset the number in the charging_enabled file back to one.
If your phone passed the test, you can go ahead and install the app. Tap on the Download complete notification and tap on Install when you’re prompted to do so.
In the XPS 15 9530, there are options in the BIOS to manage battery charging. I believe the default is Adaptive and there are some other pre-defined profiles, but if you choose Custom you can specify a bleep to limit max charge. You can also specify a minimum charge that the battery has to self-discharge to before the system will start charging it again -- so for example if you set your max charge to 80% and your minimum charge to 50%, then once the battery reaches 80%, the system will continue to run on AC power, but it will NOT keep the battery topped up. Instead, the battery will be allowed to self-discharge down to 50%, which normally takes a few days, and only then will the system charge it back up to 80%. This increases battery longevity, as long as you can deal with the potential inconvenience of only having a 50% charge available when you disconnect from the wall.
